'Antiques Roadshow' Episodes in Raleigh Premiere on PBS NC in April

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 3/18/2024 — On May 16, 2023, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, PBS’s most-watched ongoing series, came to the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh in search of hidden treasures. Nearly 3,500 attendees brought family heirlooms and yard-sale finds to be evaluated by the country’s leading appraisers. The three episodes filmed that day will premiere on PBS NC, the free PBS App and online beginning April 1.
“PBS North Carolina was honored to host ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’s production team in Raleigh,” comments David Crabtree, CEO and General Manager of PBS North Carolina. “It was a wonderful experience for the community and our staff. We were overwhelmed by the response from viewers across North Carolina and the commitment of over 100 volunteers who helped bring these episodes to life.”
In advance of the Raleigh episodes of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, the new special Behind the Scenes: Antiques Roadshow in North Carolina debuts Monday, March 25, at 9 PM, on PBS NC, the PBS App and online. Cohosts David Crabtree and Deborah Holt Noel hear from the iconic show’s producers and appraisers, as well as visitors eager to learn more about their most cherished possessions.
“In PBS NC’s Behind the Scenes special, viewers can see how ANTIQUES ROADSHOW comes together through insightful commentary from the show’s producers and appraisers as well as through the experiences of cohosts David Crabtree and Deborah Holt Noel,” says Mike O’Connell, the special’s executive producer.
For the Behind the Scenes special, PBS NC crews filmed over two days to capture what goes into the making of the show as well as the excitement of attendees. Included are interviews with ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Executive Producer Marsha Bemko, Senior Producer Sam Farrell and appraisers Kevin Zavian (jewelry and watches), Andrew Brunk of Asheville (folk art and furniture), Peter Shaw (musical instruments) and Travis Landry (collectibles, toys and games).
Objects featured in the special include a Civil War-era sword, vintage Barbie and Ken dolls, family jewelry and a handmade kora, a stringed instrument from West Africa. Cohosts David Crabtree and Deborah Holt Noel also brought personal items for evaluation by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW appraisers.
“There’s not a single artifact that doesn’t have a story,” said Deborah Holt Noel, an executive producer at PBS NC. “Whether it’s a deck of cards or an old piece of jewelry, a picture or a vintage Tru-Vue viewfinder, which belonged to my father—it’s not always the dollar value that people treasure most, it’s the story that’s like a window into who you are.”
Produced by GBH, the award-winning series ANTIQUES ROADSHOW kicked off its 28th season earlier this year. In addition to the stop in Raleigh, the show visits the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage, AK; Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA; LSU Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge, LA; and Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, OH. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW airs Mondays at 8 PM on PBS NC, online or on the free PBS App.
