RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 8/5/24 — PBS North Carolina announces that it will launch a brand-new original music series, Shaped by Sound, in early 2025. Production on the series, which features a diverse roster of North Carolina musical artists, kicks off in August at the network’s studios in Research Triangle Park.

“With Shaped by Sound, PBS North Carolina puts a much-deserved spotlight on North Carolina’s thriving music scene,” says Laura Kieler, PBS North Carolina’s Chief Content and Marketing Officer. “We’re thrilled to bring a spectacular musical lineup to audiences across the state. Our multiyear partnership with the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources on projects like Southern Songbirds, Music at the Museum and Freight Train Blues has helped lay the groundwork for this exciting, visually stunning show. Music lovers of all stripes will be wowed by the performances, storytelling and visual artistry.”

Shaped by Sound will feature a broad array of genres, including indie rock, hip-hop, alt-country, R&B, bluegrass, jazz and folk. Presented as thirteen 30-minute episodes, the serieswill weave live performances by both well-known performers and emerging acts with insightful conversation. The show will air on the network’s broadcast channels and digital platforms and will be accompanied by a video podcast and a host of digital extras.

In June, Governor Roy Cooper announced the establishment of the N.C. Music Office within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Dedicated to promoting and celebrating North Carolina’s music, musicians and music industry, the new office will coordinate a wide range of music-based programming and investments across the state. The office will also work with other state agencies and organizations, including PBS North Carolina.

“I can’t think of a better way to promote and amplify the unique sounds of North Carolina musicians than this exciting new series from PBS North Carolina,” said Reid Wilson, secretary of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. “The N.C. Music Office is dedicated to celebrating our state’s rich musical heritage, and we’re thrilled to be sponsoring this groundbreaking series.”

PBS North Carolina will release a full list of performers in the coming months.
