What is Lunar New Year?

According to the National Museum of Asian Art, the Lunar New Year is the celebration of the arrival of spring, and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar in which the months are based on the moon and the years are based on the sun. Lunar New Year is celebrated differently across cultures and countries. In China, the Lunar New Year is celebrated with a 15-day festival known as China’s Spring Festival. As one of China’s most important holidays, it is the time of year we celebrate new beginnings with family. In the Chinese Zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, a spiritual and cultural symbol that represents success and good luck! Explore these crafts and activities from PBS KIDS to celebrate with your family.
