Sisterhood, Tudor Drama & Comedy on PBS

From L-R: Hayley Atwell as Margaret Schlegel in Howard’s End, Tom Holland as Gregory Cromwell in Wolf Hall and Helena Bonham Carter as Noele “Nolly” Gordon in Nolly.

This November, Howards End is the perfect show to binge as the weather turns cooler. Set in Edwardian England, the heart of the series is the Schlegel sisters, Margaret and Helen, who each have differing views on love, independence and society. As the sisters navigate the rigid class divides of their time, their journeys unfold in a world full of romance, societal expectations and personal growth. Set in elegant country estates with crisp autumnal landscapes, you’ll want to curl up with a cup of tea and lose yourself in a world that feels both beautifully distant and strangely familiar.

Or trade a period romance for a more serious drama. Wolf Hall delivers power struggles, betrayals and the cutthroat politics inside Henry VIII’s court. And if you need more Tudor drama, check out Inside the Court of Henry VIII, a documentary-style special that offers an eye-opening look at the real-life conspiracies and political maneuvering of the era.

For a change of pace, Nolly brings some much-needed lightheartedness to PBS NC this month. Telling the true story of Noele Gordon, the beloved British actress who starred in the iconic soap opera Crossroads, it’s a playful, heartwarming glimpse into a woman who was ahead of her time.
