Spotlight on North Carolinians
Hear the stories of seven North Carolinians who served in the Vietnam War. 1,612 people from the state died in the conflict, including the youngest U.S. serviceman to die in the war and one of the eight women. Thousands of Vietnam veterans with post-trauma stress or other disabilities find relief at “The Wall That Heals,” a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
This documentary explores one North Carolina's community's efforts to honor its Vietnam War veterans. The town of Garner invited The Wall That Heals to remember those who died in Vietnam, to honor those who went to Vietnam, and to educate those people who know little about the sacrifices made by our Vietnam War veterans.
The veteran unemployment rate has steadily dropped since its all-time high of nearly 12% in April 2020, but as of March 2021, the veteran unemployment rate is still at 4.6%. Veteran advocates say it can be difficult for people to transition out of the military into the civilian job market. However, veterans often bring a unique approach and skillset to jobs.
Civilian students, active duty soldiers and airmen attend Fayetteville State University to gain the skills needed to launch military careers as officers in a unique partnership between the university, U.S. Army & U.S. Air Force.

Hosted by Shain Brenden, a former medic in the US Navy who served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan with the Marines, the series asks what these objects meant and why they still matter today.
