Donate a Vehicle and Support PBS North Carolina

Vehicle donation is one of the most popular ways members of the public support PBS North Carolina each year! Thinking about selling your car, truck, boat, motorcycle or other vehicle? Donate it to PBS North Carolina and help support all the programs you love. Plus, receive a tax deduction when you itemize your return.

How It Works

Simply call us toll-free at 866-862-8855 or fill out the form on this page—we’ll take care of the rest, including the vehicle pickup, at no cost. Once your vehicle has been sold, you’ll get a receipt for your tax records. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to PBS North Carolina in your name.

To learn more, check out the IRS’ Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donation, see the FAQs below, call us at 866-862-8855 or fill out our online form.

Have questions about vehicle donation? We have answers.

What type of vehicles do you accept as donations?

We accept most cars, trucks, vans, fleet vehicles, trailers, boats, motorcycles and RVs.

I lost the vehicle’s title (pink slip). Can I still donate?

If you need help arranging the donation and you’ve misplaced the title, please contact us at 866-862-8855 and a titling specialist will assist you.

What do you do with the vehicles?

The vehicles are sold at private auction. Proceeds from sale are then used to support PBS North Carolina’s mission, including helping us produce and acquire quality educational and entertainment programs and support our outreach efforts in communities across the state.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes, your vehicle donation is tax deductible. Please note:

  • For low-value vehicle donations, you can claim the fair market value up to $500.
  • If you donate a car worth more than $500, your deduction is limited to the final sale price of your car donation.
  • In either case, you’ll get a receipt showing the final sale price of your donated vehicle within thirty days of the sale. For more information, check out the IRS’ Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations.

Will I get a receipt showing how much money my vehicle raised for PBS North Carolina?

Yes, you’ll be mailed a receipt that shows the amount your donated vehicle brought in at auction. Expect to receive your receipt of sale four to eight weeks after you donate your vehicle.

Can I determine my vehicle’s value before donating it to PBS North Carolina?

Many factors contribute to the final selling price of a vehicle, including the make, model and year as well as any mechanical or physical damage. Resources like Kelley Blue Book or NADAGuides may help you estimate the value of your vehicle. PBS North Carolina’s vehicle donation representatives cannot guarantee the final selling price, which is your charitable contribution to PBS North Carolina.

My car hasn’t run in years. Can I still donate it?

Your car must have an engine and be towable. Cars that are in poor condition may be declined as the cost to tow them may be more than its value.

Are all cars donated to PBS North Carolina sold at auction?

No, occasionally vehicles donated to PBS North Carolina do not sell at auction. In those cases, the vehicles are sold for scrap, and donors receive a receipt for the current market rate of scrap metal.

How will my car be picked up?

We’ll arrange a convenient time for your vehicle to be towed.

How can I schedule a pickup?

Please complete and submit the form on this page or call us at 866-862-8855. Thank you for supporting our mission!
